Motivated by Jacqueline Unanue, who took inspiration from Antonín Dvořák's "New World" Symphony as well as other classical pieces from her exhibit at 3rd Street Gallery "New World," Space Whale Orchestra (SWO) performs improvisations based on Jacqueline's piece "My Ancient Land" as well as Dvořák's final symphony.

As a quartet, SWO provides three introductory pieces. The first is a free improvisation based solely on the premise that the piece will be about 5 minutes in length.

The next two pieces are explorations of Jacqueline Unanue's "My Ancient Land" For the first attempt, SWO members interpret the piece silently and play what they see. The second attempt comes after an open discussion between members about how and why they played what they did.

Finally, SWO explores the intricacies of extrapolates themes and structure from each movement of the "New World" Symphony, manipulating and inserting new ideas creating unique compositions that both take into account the original work but also push it into new territory. While the end result is an entirely new experience, the spirit of Dvořák's masterpiece is still present.
